Case Studies International Online Training the Co‑operative Way | Case Study The organisation Founded in 1971 and headquartered in the Philippines, CLIMBS Life and General Insurance Co-operative has grown to have assets worth 3.64 billion pesos, life confirmation coverage of 4.2 million and non-life insurance of 32,000 policies. The problem With international travel shut down due to the pandemic, many businesses faced the prospect of having to cancel training events, with CLIMBS no exception. The Co-operative Executive Masterclass was to be a key date in the CLIMBS calendar, and following one postponement already, all involved were keen to avoid another. The challenge How could we replicate the buzz of an in person training session using technology? Would it be possible to create such an atmosphere using a tool like zoom? The solution After an initial consultation into what CLIMBS were looking to get out of the session, we put forward a team of three colleagues to design and deliver a bespoke package. The focus was on cutting edge co-operative knowledge and best practice examples from across the globe, equipping delegates with the tools and techniques to boost their performance in their day to day roles. The process Content planning The overriding aim was to make the content as engaging as possible, using real world examples and case studies mixed with interactive breakout rooms. The sessions were constructed around a number of key themes including: Understand what makes a good co-operative leader and why Engage in interactive breakout sessions that help you understand your leadership style Learn how to adopt a values-led, adaptive and ethical leadership approach Explore case studies and tangible examples that you will be able to put into practice Develop your skills in mentoring, developing and supporting young leaders Technological solutions Utilising Zoom technology, the team worked tirelessly to ensure the sessions were as engaging as possible. Tools such as Google Jamboard and RISE were used to bring the materials to life, whilst the breakout rooms allowed for conversations in smaller groups. The Result The two days ran extremely smoothly, with great feedback received from the delegates. The session also resulted in a memorandum of understanding being signed between our two organisations - a landmark commitment that shows just how much CLIMBS value training and development for their staff, as well as being a clear commitment to principle five! Very interesting, fun and I learned a lot. Thanks for this opportunity and rest assured that I will apply my learnings in my current job and my day to day activities. It was a very good training and learning despite the online setting and not our usual face to face training. I was able to learn a lot from the trainers as well as my fellow participants. Thank you so much. It is very interesting. I learned a lot and I enjoyed the session Future work CLIMBS were so pleased with how the session ran that they've scheduled in another session for later in 2021.
