The purpose of this workshop to explore the role that co-operative enterprise has in international development. It will introduce learners to the different ways co-operatives work to address a range of challenges across both the global north and south, linking to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

Course content

During this workshop, participants will:

  • Distinguish the role co-operatives play in the field of international development (ID) and be able to articulate the distinction between ID and international co-operative development 
  • Describe and discuss the role co-operatives play in addressing the Sustainable Development Goals. 
  • Recognise the role of some of the key international players in the field of international co-operative development. 
  • Reflect on the challenges faced in the global south and examine how international co-operative development is addressing these challenges 
  • Identify a range of sectors that co-operatives work in and examine some of the challenges faced by co-operatives within the development context. 

Length of course

This is a half-day course, lasting three hours.
