05/06/2020 A brand new governance structure for our higher education offer

Our Academic Administrator/Student Experience Officer Alex Adley shares her thoughts on what the changes mean for a future Co-operative University and the exciting developments ahead.

The College’s Interim Academic Board was established in January 2019 to drive forward the our Higher Education offer. Joining the College in 2020, it was easy  -if a little overwhelming!- to see how just how much this board was achieving and how crucial it had been in getting us to where we are today.

On 25th May 2020, I attended my third IAB meeting, which more significantly was the final IAB meeting. Following lots of discussion and the hard work of all members, the IAB has now been dissolved but, as the members themselves put it, this is not an end, but another door opening- and an exciting one at that!

A brand new governance structure will be created around the HE offer- an internal Governance Working Group (and eventual Academic Board) which will look at the practicalities of setting up and delivering our HE offer in line with OFS requirements and the Co-operative University Federation Steering Group (CUFSG) which will continue to drive forward our vision of a network of co-operative HEI’s.

These are exciting developments which will balance our desire to innovate with the reality of becoming a new DAPs provider.

The final meeting was not only productive, but was a wonderful opportunity to hear from members what the board has meant to them over the past year, and a great chance for me to hear from those who had been with the board from day one.

The key messages were heartfelt thanks to the learning, growth, and trust that has underpinned the board and all the work around Co-operative Higher Education. For myself working with the board has certainly been an educational and positive experience and it was delightful to hear our members felt the same. We look forward to welcoming these members as part of the brand new CUFSG and continuing this journey cooperatively, with all the challenges and excitements that will bring.
