The world of work – preparing for the rise of the robots

The webinar

The world of work is changing. Machine learning, robotics and other technological changes are replacing swathes of jobs in the ‘old economy’ – unskilled jobs and skilled. And new technologies are also creating platforms for service provision in the ‘gig economy’. These changes can create opportunities for entrepreneurship.

And with the great challenges facing society, increasing numbers are attracted to social entrepreneurship – enterprises with a business model to make them sustainable, but whose purpose is to deliver beneficial social outcomes, such as tackling the climate crisis, homelessness, or poverty.

To move in and out of this economy – whether through the gig economy, or by creating an enterprise or
social enterprise – requires education in a range of skills and capabilities. The need for adult education and lifelong learning is increasing, and the costs to any society that fails to provide such education will be large.
