Spread over two half-day sessions, this workshop enhances understanding of the role that co-operative enterprise plays in helping to achieve the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) around the world.

Using a range of examples, the workshop explores how organisations and individuals might adapt their working practices to support the SDGs.

Who is it for?

The Sustainable Development Goals are a call to action by all countries, making this course relevant and open to everyone.

It will be of particular interest to those involved in co-operative working and values-driven activity, as well as business leaders, community activists and others committed to achieving the SDGs.

What will participants learn?

During the course, participants will:

  • Explore what is meant by sustainability and sustainable development
  • Review each of the SDGs, paying particular attention to those most relevant to co-operatives
  • Examine the relationship between co-operative values and principles and the SDGs
  • Collectively investigate how their organisation is integrating SDGs into its work

How will participants learn?

The workshop takes an active learning approach, encouraging participants to engage in group discussions and reflective activities to enhance learning and generate further thinking.

As part of the workshop, learners will be encouraged to collectively ask questions about their own organisations and the SDGs, such as:

  • The extent to which their organisation can meet the SDGs
  • Which SDGs are most relevant to their work
  • What the benefits are of using the SDGs as a measure of their approach to sustainability
  • How they might drive the SDGs forward within their own organisations
