Earlier this month young people from the Cannock cohort of our Co-operative (ad)Venture Project held a special event in their local community to raise money for Newlife, a local charity that supports disabled children.

The core aim of our Co-operative (ad)Venture project is to equip all participants with the skills, confidence and knowledge to move into employment post education, as we know that many young people with disabilities, autism and learning difficulties are not given the opportunity to reach their full potential.

We want to change that, and our project is showing just what young people can achieve when given the platform to do so!

Giving back

After 12 weeks of hard work on the project, the young people ran a fundraising tombola at their local Asda superstore, raising an amazing £82.00!
Despite lots of nerves and anxiety on the day, they all excelled engaging with members of the public and putting the skills that they've learned throughout our project into practice.

Excited for the future

Young people from Cannock Co-operative (ad)Venture with Newlife staff

Not only have they raised much needed funds for their chosen charity, they've also grown in confidence, self belief and fully embraced the values and ethos of the co-operative movement. As the current cohort comes to the end of their time on the project, we're delighted to reveal just some of what they'll be up to next including:
  • One young person is now in paid employment.
  • Two young people are moving onto a Prince's Trust Programme, putting into practice the skills and knowledge that they've learned on our project.
  • Two young people are moving onto training at local colleges, boosted by the confidence they've gained whilst being with us.
  • One young person is continuing with their IT study course, whilst two other young people have been inspired to volunteer at our partner organisation, Mencap, supporting other young people in their own learning.

We can't wait to see what all the young people go on to accomplish and wish them all the success in the future!
