Who is it for?

Anyone who is part of, or interested in, worker co-operatives.

  • If you have just started in a worker co-op, this session acts as a great introduction to worker co-ops and the wider co-op movement
  • If you are an existing worker, who could do with a refresher or want to find out about the wider worker co-op sector
  • Someone who is interested in the sector from a historical or socio-economic perspective (you'll meet some genuine worker co-op members)

What will I learn?

  • What a co-op is at a deeper level, fleshed out with examples and case studies of specific worker co-ops and the wider co-op sector
  • Where where co-ops came from, their history and context from 19th, 20th and 21st Centuries
  • Understand more about the scale and diversity of co-op economy, learn some key facts
  • Find out what is going on in the modern worker co-op movement and how to get involved

Meet the tutors

This workshop will be delivered by Cilla Ross, Vice Principal at the Co-operative College and John Atherton who works for Co-operatives UK the national network for the UK's thousands of co-ops. John has been active champion for worker co-ops for over 10 years, working closely with some of the largest and most successful examples such as Suma and Unicorn. More recently John has been focusing on the new waves of worker ownership coming from the freelancer and tech sectors.
