Who is it for?

Are you interested in research but want it to be more democratic and hands-on? You might be interested in this course introducing participatory methods, a radical reimagining of research as ‘done with’ rather than ‘done to’.

What will I learn?

Participatory research is a really exciting method to include people in your research. Rather than professional researchers carrying out their research on people, this practice aims to make sure the people being researched are involved and have input. Also, participatory research aims to solve problems as well as theorising about them. You’ll learn lots about what participatory research is and then prepare yourself to apply these methods and illustrate how collected data and research findings can be analysed, interpreted and disseminated.

By the end of this course you’ll be able to:

  • Describe and discuss the nature and purpose of participatory research approaches in relation to researching co-operatives
  • Compare and contrast research methods and methodology
  • Construct research questions and a research design
  • Recognise issues of ethics and consent
  • Critically analyse and establish research findings
  • Understand ways of disseminating research

Co-operative College Certificate in Co-operative Education, Research and Practice will be awarded upon successful completion of the course.

How will I learn?
