This unique course has been designed to respond to the growing interest in the role that co-operatives play in the field of international development.

  • Co-operative members who want to learn in-depth knowledge of the global co-operative movement 
  • International co-operative members who want to engage with discussion and debate about the co-operative movement worldwide 

What will I learn?

In this online course you’ll be immersed in the world of international co-operative development from the outset, illustrated using real life case studies and supported by a whole host of resources. You’ll also learn about:

  • The diversity and reach of the global co-operative movement and how co-ops have transformed the lives of individuals across the world
  • Some of the similarities and differences in how co-ops work internationally, looking at both opportunities and challenges
  • The “co-operative difference” in international development and the crucial role that education plays within this

Webinars will run from 2-4pm. You will be sent an email with information about how to join the webinars once you have booked onto the course. 

How will I learn?

Our workshops aren’t just about watching a presentation and taking notes. We use ZOOM technology as well as face-to-face sessions to ensure they’re interactive and dynamic, with our team taking an active role in ensuring you get the best learning experience possible. On this course there will be:

  • Group activities to encourage the sharing of ideas about international co-operative development so  participants can learn from each other and make connections.
  • Case studies for you to review and analyse, giving you have a deeper understanding of the impact co-operatives have in changing people’s lives.

Meet the team

With a wealth of experience in international co-operative development, our team is well placed to highlight how co-operatives strive to build sustainable communities and transform lives across the world.

Dr Sarah Alldred is the International Programme Manager at the College.

With a background in Peace Studies, Sarah manages the College’s international co-operative development programmes, taking her to a whole host of different countries including Ethiopia, Malawi, Colombia, and right across Europe through our work on the Co-operatives Europe Development Platform.

Dr Amanda Benson specialises in gender, agriculture, international and community development, Amanda coordinates the College research and projects to promote sustainable and inclusive development both in the UK and worldwide.

Written notice of cancellations up to 21 days before an event will incur a 25% administration fee. After this time period, a 100% cancellation charge will apply. Substitutions (i.e. name changes) for the event booked can be made free of charge.
