Who is it for?

If you supervise or manage other people in a co-op this workshop is the one for you. You might be wondering what a co-operative ‘leader’ is. Come along to find out! Don’t worry, you don’t have to be in a leadership role to find the course helpful and interesting. Experienced ‘leaders’ and even people in co-ops without managers can all get something out of this session.

What will I learn?

This one day workshop will look at different approaches to leadership and how they work in a commercial environment and in different co-operative models.  We’ll evaluate theoretical models of leadership and analyse the skills and behaviours of ‘leaders’ observed in case studies.

At the end of the course you’ll be able to:

  • Demonstrate a critical awareness of theoretical models of leadership and leadership styles
  • Understand how to demonstrate the Co-operative Values and Principles through your own leadership behavior
  • Reflect on your own practice to evaluate your own behaviour as a ‘co‑operative leader’ and what this means
  • Identify techniques to support the development of co-operative leaders within your organisation

How will I learn?

During the workshop you’ll learn by taking part in:

  • Whole and sub-group discussion with practical activities
  • Q&A sessions
  • Self-reflection activities to think about how you’ll apply what you’ve learned to a wider context
