The Co-operative College - a different kind of College for a different kind of business

The Co-operative Approach to Work Based Learning

From 2009 onwards, our status as a Train to Gain broker will ensure we offer the type of specialist services that co-operatives need, helping staff to achieve Basic Skills and NVQ qualifications to make business grow. Our role is vital to develop a national co-operative work force that meets national standards, moving into the future with confidence.

Train to Gain programmes promote co-operative values and working practices within key sectors, delivered as a partnership between the Co-operative College and employers, to meet business, employee and members’ needs. We can provide each co-operative business, employees and members free or subsidised:

  • Advice and support in designing tailored Train to Gain learning programmes to improve performance.
  • Professional support to manage ‘the paperwork’.
  • Workplace learning activities (non-disruptive to business activity).
  • Assessor training for staff/members (in smaller co-operatives, an assessor is provided).
  • Employee work based training and qualifications.
  • Further progression opportunities.

By engaging with Train to Gain, employers can achieve financial, business and co-operative objectives. In this way, the Co-operative College and the co-operative sector will lead the way in making work based vocational learning a national success.
