The Co-operative Group is the main sponsor of Business and Enterprise Colleges. It is one of the largest consumer co-operatives in the world, comprised of a unique family of businesses. With sales of over £13.7 billion, it employs over 120,000 people, who serve around 21 million customers per week in over 4,800 high street branches and online. The Co-operative Bank, Co-operative Insurance Society (CIS), Travelcare, Co-op Pharmacy, Co-operative Funeralcare and Priory Motors are also part of the Group.

Like all co-operatives, The Co-operative Group is owned by members – consumers who have joined the Society to show their support for the way it does business – and its values influence the products and services of each of its businesses, showing that good quality products and value don’t have to come at the expense of honesty and social responsibility.

Meeting the needs of members, and working in partnership with them to improve the communities they all share, are top priorities. The Co-operative Group operates a number of initiatives (such as Community Dividend, Partner Card and the Community Food Discount Card), which enable customers to support local self-help groups. Regional membership teams work at grassroots level to promote co-operation – for example the development of credit unions and food co-operatives – and encourage customers to play an active part in the business.
