In the 1970s, the building was extensively repaired and renovated and has remained largely unchanged since. However, it has now closed for an extensive modernisation programme.
It will only be possible to see the exterior of the building until the beginning of 2012.
The Museum is now closed for refurbishment and will not be re-opening until 2012.
The Toad Lane Conservation Area is a traditional cobbled street with stone kerbs and flagged pavements which aims to reflect the era of the Rochdale Pioneers.
The development project currently under way at the Museum will enable full access to the building for all, with the levelling of the step to the front door and the addition of a lift.
If you have any suggestions for other access requirements that you would like to see accommodated, please contact us.
The Rochdale Pioneers Museum is situated a short distance from Rochdale town centre. Rochdale is easily reached by road from the M62 Motorway – Junction 20 or 21, midway between Manchester and Huddersfield and has excellent rail and bus connections.
