Volunteering Opportunities
The Rochdale Pioneers Museum has become a place of pilgrimage for thousands of British and international co-operators, historians, schoolchildren and members of the public each year. Inside the museum, visitors enjoy a replica of the original shop and displays of a variety of items related to over 160 years of co-operative history. Highlights of the collection include Women’s Co-operative Guild banners, commemorative ceramics, domestic items manufactured by co-operatives and delivery vehicles. The extensive collections of co-operative society seals, dividend tokens and postage stamps are of particular interest to numismatists and philatelists.
The Rochdale Pioneers Museum will be closed until the beginning of 2012, however, during this period, there will be a great deal of activity on the development of learning resources using Museum artefacts.
Volunteers work closely with staff, gaining hands-on experience in museum methods and practices. Wherever possible, projects are tailored to the volunteer’s particular area of interest. Managed by the Co-operative College, an organisation dedicated to adult and lifelong learning programmes, the Rochdale Pioneers Museum is an ideal environment for volunteering.
