Rochdale Pioneers – Original Members

A list was prepared in the early part of the twentieth century of the original 28 members of the Rochdale Equitable Pioneers Society. It was updated in the 1990s and includes details of their occupation, persuasion, date of death, age at death and place of burial and is available to download (rochdalePioneersOriginalMembers).

Rochdale Pioneers – Self Help by the People

During 1857, the Daily News published a series of articles about the Rochdale Pioneers by George Jacob Holyoake. These articles were then published as a book “Self Help by the People: the History of the Rochdale Pioneers”. This book sold rapidly and helped to inspire the formation of many co-operative societies, being translated into French, German, Russian and other languages by the 1860s. The first volume is available to download (self-helpPartOne).
