Leadership and Management Development

Progression through the management structure presents new challenges at every level and the CMI suite of qualifications offers organisations development opportunities for all their managers, from supervisors and team leaders to middle and senior management. The College has considerable experience of ‘bespoking’ and delivering CMI programmes to meet the specific needs of a range of clients, including large and small-medium sized co-operatives, Mutuals and NHS Foundation Trusts.

Learning takes place through attendance at workshops and the assessment is workbook and assignment based so there are no external examinations. The assessors are all fully qualified professionals in their field and act as learner mentors after the date of the workshop so that learners feel as though they are getting a full learning experience.
We also offer a range of short courses which help to enhance specific skills whilst incorporating the Co-operative ethos. These courses are delivered as in-house partnership programmes where the workshops are delivered locally and tailored to meet your specific needs. The programme includes a range of courses to meet the needs of managers at every stage of their career development.

Co-operative College CMI Level 3 Diploma in First Line Mangement

The Level 3 qualifications in First Line Management have been developed specifically for supervisors and first line managers who have operational responsibility for a defined area of activity. It enables junior manages to learn and develop their communication and motivational skills in order to help improve their operational efficiency.
There are three different levels within this qualification and it is progressive so if you choose the award, then you can easily progress upwards to work towards the Certificate and then the Diploma. The 3 different levels within this qualification framework are:

3A1 CMI Level 3 award in first Line Management (QCF)
3C1 CMI Level 3 Certificate in First Line Management (QCF)
3D1 CMI Level 3 Diploma in First Line Management (QCF)

Each level is composed of units from the CMI framework that have been given the co-operative edge by infusing them with the co-operative values and principles so that they fit in with all aspects of your business. The units that are included in this qualification are:

Co-operative College CMI Level 5 Diploma in Management and Leadership


The Level 5 qualifications in Management and Leadership are designed for practising middle managers who wish to develop their core management skills and practices, or for people wanting to progress upwards towards senior management roles. These qualifications focus on the personal development of the individual learner’s management capabilities and competencies to enable them to be more efficient and confident in their management role.
