The stimulus for this paper comes from a review of current co-operative education in eastern and southern Africa. This is the first such major study carried out and is a part of the larger CoopAfrica programme of the ILO supporting co-operative development across the region. The main focus of the research was to find out more about the work of the Co-operative Colleges and the ways in which they provide education for the co-operative movements of their own countries.
