Putting the community back into community schools? Co-op schools event, Institute of Education
In recent years, the growth of co-operative schools has shown how co-operative values and principles have been successfully adapted by schools in a variety of areas, from pedagogy to governance. Co-operatives are based upon control by members and co-operative models for trusts and academies have emphasised the role of students, teachers, parents and community as key stakeholders. However, it can take a long time to build a culture of participation in any organisation.
Three schools that have been active in these areas – Duncan Spalding and Vanessa Scargill from Aylsham High School, Karen Healey of Birches Head High School and Philip Thomas from Wey Valley School & Sports College – will reflect on their work and Sean Rogers, lead on Trust schools at the Co-operative College, will respond.
13 March, Committee Room 1, 5-7pm, Institute of Education, 20 Bedford Way, London WC1H 0AL
