The Pioneers Museum: latest photos
Work on the Pioneers Museum, Toad Lane, Rochdale, is rapidly progressing in the run-up to the reopening of the Museum in spring 2012 as part of International Year of Co-operatives.
The Museum, housed in the building where the Rochdale Pioneers opened their first shop on 21 December 1844, widely regarded as the birthplace of modern day co-operation, is currently being renovated by Manchester-based co-operative architects Loop Systems as part of a Heritage Lottery Fund grant. Work includes an extension which will house a lift and staircase, as well as a new education area on the newly restored top floor.
Photos taken of the building in mid-January show the stage the work has reached.
