‘It’s Our Time’: The Co-operative College to showcase at biennial ICMIF conference
The prestigious biennial International Cooperative and Mutual Insurance Federation (ICMIF) conference, entitled ‘It’s Our Time’, is being hosted in Manchester from 26-28 October. The Co-operative College will be highlighting the rich heritage of co-operation alongside its range of services at the co-operative showcase throughout the conference.
ICMIF is the voice of the world’s co-operative and mutual insurance sector and will be welcoming over 250 delegates from 20 countries to the event, which brings together global industry leaders to discuss, debate and co-operate.
The conference theme of ‘It’s Our Time’ refers not only to the contemporary relevance of the co-operative model in the current economic climate, but also to 2012 as the International Year of Co‑operatives.
The Co-operative College will be showcasing its global work with co-operatives, the rich learning opportunities which have developed from our heritage, developments at the Rochdale Pioneers Museum, birthplace of the modern co-operative movement, and our pioneering work with schools and young people.
An eclectic range of artefacts from the Rochdale Pioneers Museum and National Co‑operative Archive will be on display. Among them are the visitors book from Toad Lane, which has entries dating back to 1862 and includes notable visitors including Friedrich Engels, Tomizo Noguchi , who was the first Japanese visitor back in 1872, HM Queen Elizabeth II and delegations from across the world.
In addition the Co-operative Heritage Trust will be hosting a reception which will provide networking opportunities and an exclusive insight into how the Trust is preserving co-operative heritage for future generations.
