Equality, Inclusion and Action in Adult Education: WEA conference
The Co-operative College is supporting a one day conference organised by the WEA on the role of adult education in building a bigger and better society, focusing on social action and campaigning, inclusion and diversity, volunteering and partnership and co-operation.
The conference takes place at the East Midlands Conference Centre at the University of Nottingham on Friday 28 October, and will include keynote addresses from specialists in the fields of adult education, community cohesion, social justice, equality and co-operation, including:
• David Hughes, NIACE Chief Executive
• Dame Pauline Green, President of the International Co-operative Alliance
• Richard Wilkinson, co-author of The Spirit Level
Workshops include a sessions led by Gillian Lonergan and Mervyn Wilson of the Co-operative College on how the modern co-operative movement has grown from its humble beginnings in Toad Lane, Rochdale, to become a global movement. Other sessions will be run by the Woodcraft Folk, People’s Voice Media, Tom Wilson, Director of unionlearn, Henry Tam, writer and policy expert in democratic Engagement and Peter Bradley, former MP and Chief Executive of Speakers’ Corner Trust. WEA workshops will offer advice on running educational projects for equality, inclusion and community involvement.
The conference will also be addressed by John Hayes MP, Minister of State for Further Education, Skills and Lifelong Learning.
